IV. Open issues
a) Chapter reports
b) Chapter credentialing for state convention
c) PC Chapter Controversy
Motion to pass a resolution was made and passes unanimously. Said motion reads:
Whereas, Andrew Fechtel, Executive President of the Student Congress of Providence College, set guidelines for the Providence College Republicans’ election in his letter of March 31, 2008; and
Whereas, one of these guidelines was that “after the period of time set aside for voting has expired, the ballots will be collected by [Yara] Youseff [Chair of Clubs and Organizations], who will, along with the members of the Executive Board, leave the room and count the votes.”; and
Whereas, for votes to be counted without a representative from the candidates present is antithetical to fundamental principles of American democracy; and
Whereas, for example, the Republican State Central Committee of Rhode Island, when holding elections to determine the nominee of the Party for state office, allows a representative from each campaign to observe the vote counting; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the College Republican Federation of Rhode Island that all elections organized by federated chapters should be free, fair and open. To this end, an observer appointed by each candidate for Executive Board of the Providence College Republicans should be present when votes are being counted.
d) Vote to create "Rhode Island CR PAC"
Vote is unanimous
